2008 Art Walk

The third annual Coronado Art Walk is another opportunity for San
Diegans to enjoy art, listen to music, make an art and socialize with
friends. On Sunday, September 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Coronado
Ferry Landing will be the scene of over 60 artists; jewelers, ceramists,
photographers, wood and glass artists, weavers, sculptors and painters
who will be exhibiting and selling their art. Musicians will entertain
guests throughout the day and hands-on activities ranging from painting
to quilting to creating greeting cards to send to our servicemen
overseas have been organized for both children and adults. Visitors can
meet the Canine Companions and see Tommy Hollenstein's dog at work as he
paints with his wheelchair. On view at the Ferry Landing will be the
Urban Tree "Evolution," designed by Jon Koehler and Neil Shigley and
part of the new exhibit of the Coronado Museum of History and Art,
"Public Eye: A Focus on Community Art."
Last year more than 4,500 visitors from San Diego, as well as tourists
from thirteen states and four foreign countries attended 2007 Art Walk.
This year the beautiful and remodeled Ferry Landing will host the
artisans, entertainers and visitors. The Ferry Landing offers several
eatery options to choose from. Parking is available in two parking lots
adjacent to the Ferry Landing as well as on nearby streets. Suggested
alternate transportation is by public transportation, Coronado Bus 904
or by ferryboat which leaves San Diego on the hour and departs Coronado
on the half-hour. Once on the island, a free shuttle, a bright red,
double-decker bus, will run from the Ferry Landing to Spreckels Park for
Art in the Park and the Museum of History and Art for the exhibit
"Public Eye." The bus will make stops close to the Hotel Del for
out-of-town visitors.
The Coronado Art Walk is free and fun for the whole family!
Funding for this year's Coronado Art Walk has come from the Coronado
Historical Association's annual Arts Ball and the Port of San Diego. The
Coronado Historical Association and Museum of Coronado History & Art is
the sponsor of this event. Funds raised from the Art Walk will be used
to perpetuate the event. Learn more at www.coronadoartwalk.org.
