Join us in partnership with the USS Midway as speakers Steve Walker and Brian Butler, proud US Navy veterans and active docents at the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum, delve into the past and present history of USS Midway Aircraft Carrier that has become San Diego’s most highly rated tourist attraction. This year more than 1.4 million guests will visit the Midway from not only every state but from virtually every country around the globe.
Reception begins at 5:30pm, lecture at 6:00pm.
Brian arrived in San Diego as a 22-year old Navy Ensign back in 1968 and was deployed to the Western Pacific on two San Diego-based aircraft carriers -- the USS Kearsarge and USS Ticonderoga. When his three-year commitment was over he earned a Masters degree from San Diego State and then worked for numerous San Diego area companies in marketing communications positions over four decades. Brian has been a docent volunteer at the Midway for more than four years
Steve Walker served as a naval aviator for 23 years of combined active and reserve duty and retired as a Captain in the Navy Reserves. He has more than 4,300 flight hours, mostly in the A-4 fighter- bomber. Steve was a commercial pilot for 28 years working for both the former Western Airlines and then Delta, amassing more than 22,000 hours of flight time around the world. He retired from Delta in 2005. Today he teaches aviation on-line for Embry – Riddle University and has been a Midway docent for more than six years.
