We return to the Mulhall Family’s scrapbooks this week, this one featuring regional and local scenes. One particular photo is from the Plaza de Panama for the Panama-California Exposition from 1916 to 1918. The exposition was held to celebrate San Diego being the first US stop after crossing the Panama Canal, and was held in Balboa Park. Coronado’s own John D. Spreckles was on the board of directors!
The Mulhalls, who lived at 444 E Ave in Coronado, have a short documentation of their lives in this scrapbook, which acts as just a snippet of what they were doing from 1916 to 1919. A polo game, a photo on the beach, and a scene of the family outside of their home grace this scrapbook. We now get to treasure in the future what they did in the past, and that is a beautiful thing that history and preservation allows us to do.
