Coronado in Film: The Brothers Rico 5/11/20

For anyone interested in the scenes of the Mafia, Film Noir, cars, and Coronado, The Brothers Rico (1957) might be right up your alley.  Set in Florida in the 1950s, this is a crime film noir starring Richard Conte, Dianne Foster, and Kathryn Grant, a former mob bookie is trying to go straight as a business owner.  In the clip aboce you can see scenes are shot right here in Coronado.  The Getty has additonal behind-the-scenes footage of the film that includes more shots along Orange Avenue in the 1950s.

Architectural Styles Lecture 5/7/20


The Coronado Historical Association hosted a virtual lunchtime lecture called "A Bite of History: Coronado's Architectural Styles" which was live streamed on Facebook Live on May 7, 2020. The live stream included resources on identifying American house styles and architecture, such as Tudor, Queen Anne, and Spanish styles, which can be seen around Coronado.

Architect Wednesday: Reginald Davis Johnson and Thomas Shepherd 5/6/20

May is National Historic Preservation Month and the Coronado Historical Association is celebrating by highlighting the places and buildings that make our community special. Despite being closed, CHA's research volunteers are busy working from home to continue expanding our knowledge about Coronado's past. One of the projects that they are working on is to write biographies of architects to add to an index of architects who have known work in Coronado. Below are two new architect biographies compiled by CHA research volunteer Cornelius O'Leary.
