Coronado Third Grade Program

Since 2009, the Coronado Historical Association has worked in conjunction with the Coronado Unified School District, Sacred Heart School, and Christ Church Day School to bring local history to 3rd-Grade Classrooms. With the support of the Coronado Unified School District and participating schools, the program has benefitted over 1,500 students since its inception.

Trained Museum Educatos provide 4 hours of instruction over 4 days in each Coronado 3rd Grade classroom utilizing copies of historic photos, letters, postcards and scrapbooks from the museum's collections.

Students begin to explore the influence of geography on the development of a community and compare current community services and resources to those available 100 years ago. Each class then spends one morning using the Coronado Museum, the Hotel del Coronado and the downtown historic district as their classroom.

This special curriculum has been designed in full cooperation with the Coronado Unified School District and supports California State Standards for Social Studies and Language Arts.
